“With Blocks, we gained a single system for employee lockers, fleet key management, and internal mail distribution. For employees, the whole experience is completely intuitive – all they need to do is tap their employee card. We especially appreciate that Blocks is ready to grow with our offices and support new use cases as our needs evolve.”

This case study was compiled by Petr Boruta, Head of Marketing at Blocks. Petr focuses on workplace technology, tenant experience, and PropTech.

Generali’s new office was designed around a more flexible way of working. Blocks smart lockers provide the storage and internal logistics behind that transition – with more than 500 compartments supporting employees, fleet key management and internal mail distribution through one system.

For employees, the experience is simple: they tap their employee card. Behind the scenes, the solution connects with the building access control system and the company address book, giving office managers a close-to-zero-maintenance way to handle storage, handovers and usage across the workplace.

The challenge

Generali was moving away from fixed desks towards flexible space fully supported by smart storage.

“When designing our new offices, we were looking for a solution that would truly support our transition to a more flexible way of working while simplifying everyday operations,” says Branislav Pavlis, Facilities Manager at Generali. Thus, the solution needed to

  • support clean-desk policy
  • enable asynchronous delivery, pickup and returns
  • maintain clear logs
  • provide locker usage reporting

Project timeline

From order confirmation to fully functional lockers, the project was delivered in five weeks – including installation during the Christmas period so the new offices were ready on time.

  1. Custom design and quotation
  2. Order confirmation
  3. Manufacturing
  4. Shipping and installation
  5. Software setup and Entra ID integration
  6. Onboarding and launch

The solution

Blocks smart storage supports the day-to-day reality behind the flexible workplace concept – right from the start. All three use cases run on the same smart locker infrastructure, combining Blocks hardware and software in one system.

Employee lockers

More than 500 compartments are accessed via employee card and support both personal storage and handovers. Storage follows people, not fixed desks, while dynamic allocation helps the workplace use available capacity efficiently.

Integrated fleet key management

Company car keys can be issued and returned directly through the locker system. Employees gain flexibility, while clear records make every handover easier to track.

Dedicated mailroom locker

A dedicated mailroom locker supports internal post and document flows, enabling asynchronous delivery and collection without a middleman.

The result

Seamless transition to a shared-desk model

The project has become a pilot for a new workplace model across other Generali locations. The company now has the playground where this flexible workplace concept can be tested, refined and prepared for the next offices to come.

Adapting to workplace needs

The Blocks smart locker system supports both storage and internal logistics and adapts to the team and company needs as they emerge. All scenarios are supported by one system that is updated over the air.

Appreciated by the company, recognised by the industry

The office combines brand identity with functional design – as recognised in the CBRE Office of the Year awards 🏆:

  • Office as company DNA
  • Most likeable office – as voted by the public

One smart locker system. Infinite flexibility

As Generali’s workplace needs evolve, Blocks is built to adjust – from possibly changing locker functions to introducing entirely new use cases through software.
