Frequently asked questions

How are lockers used in hospitality and public spaces?

Rental lockers give visitors, guests, and customers a secure place to store luggage, bags, personal items, shopping, work equipment, or valuables for a limited time.

In hospitality, they are especially useful for early arrivals and late departures, allowing guests to store luggage before check-in or after check-out without front desk involvement.

In public spaces, they support self-service storage in locations such as shopping centres, coworking spaces, campuses, transport hubs, event venues, leisure centres, museums, galleries, or mixed-use buildings.

Where can short-term storage lockers be installed?

Lockers can be installed in almost any indoor public or semi-public area where people need short-term storage.

Typical locations include hotel lobbies, reception areas, shopping centres, gyms, wellness centres, universities, libraries, medical facilities, campuses, event venues, transport-adjacent areas, as well as all sorts of other public buildings.

They work best in places with high footfall, short visits, early arrivals, late departures, or limited space for manual storage.

What sizes are available?

Locker sizes can be configured based on the items you need to store.

For hospitality and luggage storage, we usually recommend a mix of medium and large compartments to support different guest needs. Medium boxes are used for bags, phones, laptops, documents, and personal items, while large compartments are meant for luggage, backpacks or shopping bags.

What are the installation requirements?

A standard setup usually requires:

  • a 230V power socket
  • an internet connection, ideally via LAN
  • enough space for the locker system itself

In many projects, a dedicated niche or recess is also prepared in advance according to the exact dimensions of the proposed locker setup.

For paid storage, the exact payment setup depends on the desired guest journey – with options of kiosk + payment terminal, kios + QR-based online payment, or a simple web link with no kiosk and terminal needed.

What access methods are available?

Common options include QR code, PIN code, mobile access, NFC/RFID cards, and app-based access. Users receive their access credentials after completing the payment or booking flow.

The access method can be selected based on the location, user type, security level, and desired experience.

Are day-use or short term storage lockers fully self-service?

Yes. One of the biggest advantages of Blocks lockers is that they are 100% self-service from start to finish.

Users can choose a locker size, pay if required, receive access credentials, and store and collect their items lwithout staff assistance.

This reduces pressure on reception, front desk, facility, or operations teams while giving users a simple 24/7 storage experience.

Is there an option to provide payment-free lockers?

Yes, absolutely. Lockers can also be offered free of charge.

This is useful when storage is provided as an amenity – for example for hotel guests, visitors, employees, students, VIP guests, or event attendees.

The system can support both models: free storage, paid storage, or hybrid setups such as the first hour free and paid usage after that.

What is ROI of lockers in public spaces and hospitality projects?

The short-term storage can create value in two main ways: by generating direct revenue through paid storage and by completely eliminating manual work for staff who would otherwise manage luggage, bags, parcels, keys, or personal items.

The ROI depends on the location, number of users, pricing model, revenue-split model, occupancy, and operational setup.

As a rule of thumb, you get /€ EUR/$ USD/£ GBP/$ AUD 5–€15 per every booking opportunity with zero staff handling which especially in event halls makes a lucrative income.

On top of that, you get a better guest experience, cleaner premises and in case of hospitality, a new revenue stream from space that would otherwise sit idle.

How do Blocks lockers integrate to tools we use?

Blocks open API and SDK guarantees seamless connection to any custom system or third-party tool.

Typical integrations include access control systems, workplace platforms, booking systems, PMS, payment providers, visitor management tools, and internal operational systems.

Blocks lockers become part of your existing workflow, not another separate tool for your team to manage.
